Province invests $12.8M in Northern Ontario

The growing-by-leaps-and-bounds television and movie industry in Northern Ontario, with Greater Sudbury as its hub, received a major infusion of cash from the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation Friday.

Through $12.8 million from the corporation, 21 film and television projects will be shot in and around the city.

Also, Cultural Industries Ontario North will get $694,000 to support and encourage the growth of the film, television and music industries through projects and initiatives across the North, while Northern Ontario Film Studios will get $650,000 for new equipment and renovations to its sound stage and post-production studio.

In addition, MAS Acting Studios will receive $42,968 to establish a training facility for film, television and voice actors.

The 21 film and television production projects include:

— Dasher & Frankie Productions, which will receive $500,000 for production of the film On Dasher, On Dancer, On Frankie:

— Shaftesbury Films Inc. is receiving $1.5 million to produce the television series Slasher;

— Glowbies Inc. is receiving $500,000 to produce the animated children’s television series Glowbies; and

— Born to Be Blue Productions will get $1 million to produce the film Born to be Blue.
